Looks To Love: Rihanna

SHHHH!, Don't tell anyone, but I have a confession, I have a girl crush on Rihanna, or maybe I'm just crushing on her style. Whatever it is, girlfriend has seriously got it going on! I know they say that imitation is the best form of flattery, and as much as I would love to emulate her looks, her fashion choices inspire me to create my own signature look just as she has. Ri Ri has seriously become an icon in my eyes, even her not so great looks are still acceptable because her edgy attitude carries her outfit into sartorial success. @ Practice for the AMA'S which aired 11/23/08 , this outfit is very much my style b/c I have this weird obsession with plaid button ups, I'd pass on the big hoops and replace them with pyramid gold studs I always wear. hmm I don't think I'm too dark for red lipstick either...

Gucci ♥ 's Rihanna

News is that Rihanna's the new face of Gucci, (YAYY!). She's the star of Gucci's 4th annual ad campaign for UNICEF. I'm sorry I couldn't get better pics, she's modeling the "Tattoo Heart" Collection which consists of ultra luxe white leather and "tattoo" details. All the proceeds from the line will go towards improving the lives of children in sub-Saharan Africa through life-saving programs. I think Frida Giannini made the right move by choosing "Ri-Ri" for this campaign, because if I had to stare at another pale faced model I was probably going to puke [imagine that, all white bags with a snow white model, realllll exciting]. Who knows maybe choosing a pop star will bring some extra hoopla to this collection because the "Gucci ♥'s NY" collection didn't exactly sell out in stores.

Spotted: Andre J. on 35th

I saw Andre J. crossing the street around W. 35th st today,[small world!], his lip gloss was definitely poppin. What can I say?

If you don't know Andre, here's a synopsis:

Andre J. (born 1979) is an American party promoter who is a presence in the New York City fashion scene. He is known for his distinctive, gender-bending personal style and has been featured in photo spreads in French Vogue and V magazine. He worked as a perfume salesperson at Lord & Taylor, a publicist for Patrica Field (another one of my favorite designers, if your not familiar, google her), and he also worked as a party host at clubs in NYC. Andre got his big break one day on the street, he was spotted by stylist Joe McKenna, who was then on the phone with fashion photographer Bruce Weber. Some powerful words got exchanged and POOF he's on the cover of french Vogue. Some people just have all of the luck.Andre J. often wears women's clothing, he does not consider himself a crossdresser. Instead, he sees himself as unconfined by gender and social conventions. (great explanation) "Most people are conditioned to think of a black man looking a certain way," he told the New York Times. "They only think of the ethnic man in XXX jeans and Timberlands, and here Andre J. comes along with a pair of hot shorts and a caftan or maybe flip-flops or cowboy boots or a high, high heel."

NYC Events:CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards

Last night The CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America)/Vogue Fashion Fund celebrated its fifth anniversary at Skylight Studios in NYC.

Congratulations to Alexander Wang!! He was awarded the fund's top prize of $200,000 and a year's worth of mentoring.

I'm very happy for Alexander who attended Parsons School for Design says"Four years ago I was reading about this award in my dorm room in a magazine." Apparently dreams do come true for those who work hard. Take a look at the transparent dress his date, Alice Dellal is wearing from his Spring 09 RTW collection, clearly this 24 year old has talent and style in the bag.

I hate when ppl mix metallics, pick ONE, either silver OR gold, some instances it works.. but not this time.

State of the union #3

Sorry I'm one day late with my state of the union posts. This decision was a little harder than others, whats" in" and whats "out" usually comes to me easily. I decided it's time for everyone to retire their "tu-tu" dresses, Rapper and Sweet 16-er Teyana Taylor made a splash onto the scene with her custom "Heatherette" creation. [btw Heatherette needs to REUNITE] Since then every girl grabbed a hold onto anything with tulle and poof, and I loved it too, I have a cute black sequined one. Betsey Johnson makes her living on these dresses as well but even she has moved on. I'm daring any up and coming designers to replace the tu-tu dress, start a new craze, that's where the real talent is b/c stitching tulle together isn't as difficult of a task as it seems.
